Great Results at the Junior Olympic Qualifiers

10 Tuesday Dec 2013

We hosted the Junior Olympic Qualifiers this past Saturday (December  7), and Seacoast had a great day of fencing.  SFC fencers won all four contested events:  Liam Higgins won the Junior Men’s Saber, Jacob Scruton won the Cadet Men’s Foil, and Sam Wood won both the Cadet and Junior Women’s Foil.  Congratulations to the three of them!

Of the 24 entries, 19 were from Seacoast, so it is no surprise that SFC fencers were the vast majority of those who are now qualified to go to the 2014 Junior Olympics, which will be held this February in Portland, Oregon.  While not all who qualified will actually go to Oregon to compete, fourteen Seacoast fencers qualified this Saturday.

And we would like to thank the two UNH fencers who did a great job directing for us, Kate Dusenberre and Cam Borgal.

Seacoast Fencers,
It is the start of a new three month term at Seacoast (December, February, and March). Please make checks payable to Seacoast Fencing Club.
Chris Pullo
Head Coach

The prices for Winter term are below:
Children (ages 7 to 12) $240
Youth (ages 12-14) $255
Junior/Adult (14 -73) $270

Advanced Class $80 (Tues in Rochester, Wed in Manchester: 7:45-8:15 pm)

The Advanced Class is recommended for all youth, junior, and adult fencers who want to learn more defensive and offensive actions, directing, and meet preparation. The class meets once a week for nine weeks, and starts right after youth training ends. There are three sets of nine week classes, for a total of 27 classes. It is the most economical way to learn higher level fencing. If interested in taking the class, please sign up at the club (I need at least four students to offer the class).

Thinking of Fencing gear for Christmas?

Bugsy (David Rabitor) will be at  the Rochester club Tuesday evening (Nov 19) to take equipment orders for Christmas.  He will also be at the Manchester club next Wednesday (Nov 20).  And as always, he is at Manchester on Thursdays, and Rochester on Sundays.  Equipment should be here in plenty of time for Christmas and Hannukah.  After all, nothing says “Happy Holidays” and  “Peace on Earth” like sword fighting equipment.  Ok, maybe not, but it makes a great present!

Holidays at Seacoast Fencing Club

We do not close for very many holidays.  Christmas (eve and day), New Years (eve and day), Thanksgiving Day (and the Wednesday before), Labor Day weekend, and Memorial Day weekend, are the only ones for which we usually close.  And we are closed the entire month of July.  We will be open the Sunday after Thanksgiving.  Also, we are open over winter and spring school breaks.

However, this year we will close between Christmas eve and New Years day in Manchester, so I can polyurethane the floor.

Additionally, in the winter, we close when snow or ice is either happening or predicted to start during club hours.  No one should risk their life coming to fencing!  Weather cancellations will be posted on this web site, and I will email members as well.

Seacoast Fencers,

I hope you all had a great summer.  Now it is time to have a great season!  Remember, you must be a current member of the USFA,  Last year’s membership will have expired, unless you joined after April 1, 2013 or did a three year membership.  I strongly recommend a competitive membership, so you can enter tournaments.  The link to do so is https://www.railstation.org/usfencing/MembershipRegistration.aspx

We are starting the 2013-2014 season at Seacoast on Sunday September 8 in Rochester for Juniors and Adults only  (and beginning and intermediate classes).  Children and Youth programs start Tuesday, September 10.  We will have a parent’s meeting on that Tuesday at 6:30, to collect checks, explain how the program runs, what is expected from both you and your child, and the upcoming tournaments appropriate for your child.

Manchester starts on Monday, September 9 for all programs (Children, Youth, and Junior/Adult).   We will have a parent’s meeting on that Monday at 6:30, to collect checks, explain how the program runs, what is expected from both you and your child, and the upcoming tournaments appropriate for your child.

See you in a couple weeks!

Chris Pullo
