Fencing in September

We are starting a new season in September!  The schedule and prices are below.  I hope to see all of you at the first meetings in each club.  Manchester will open on Wednesday, September 6.  Rochester will open on Thursday, September 7.

Both clubs will have a parents meeting at 7:00 on their first day.  Please bring payment, and be ready to take notes on the upcoming competitions for your child.  Also, my private lesson schedule will be set at that time.  Please be there!

Fencers will have their orientation and a discussion on upcoming competitions on Saturday, September 9 for Manchester fencers, and on Tuesday, September 12 for Rochester fencers.

Manchester Schedule

Children will be 10:30 to11:30 am on Saturdays, & 6:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesdays.

Youths will be 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on Saturdays, & 6:30 to 7:45 pm on Wednesdays.

Juniors and Adults will now meet on Saturdays, 12:00 to 2:00 pm, and Mondays and Wednesdays 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Juniors and Adults will be on Sundays, 6:00 to 8:00 pm, and Tuesdays and Thursdays 7:00 to 9:00 pm.

Rochester fencers can also come to the Manchester club on Saturdays if you want to pick up an extra day of fencing (with new people).  No extra charge, as all Seacoast fencers can train in either or both clubs, any time you want (OK, only when we are open).

As usual, we are happy to stay an extra half hour if fencers want more time on the strip!

Children      $265
Youth            $280
Junior           $295
Adult             $295

Advanced Class  $95  (a great way to learn more offensive and defensive techniques for newer and younger fencers).

Please bring cash or a check (payable to Seacoast Fencing Club) to the first meeting. I do not have credit, debit, paypal, or bitcoin capability.

Fencing in August

Youth, Junior, and Adult Training will be combined in August, and meet 7:00 to 9:00 pm twice a week in each club.

There will be no Children’s Training this month (not enough signed up).

The Rochester schedule for August:      Will meet 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Tuesdays and Thursdays (no Sundays).  The first night is Tuesday, August 1, and the last night will be Tuesday, August 29.

The Manchester schedule for August:    Will meet 7:00 to 9:00 pm on Mondays and Wednesdays (no Thursdays).  The first night is Wednesday, August 2, and the last night will be Wednesday, August 30.

If you did not pay for both June and August at the end of Spring Term, the tuition for August will be $170 for Youths, and $185 for Juniors and Adults.

Check the website next week for the Fall schedule.  The first meeting of the Fall term will be Thursday, September 7, and Saturday, September 9 in Manchester.  Yes, Manchester will now have training on Saturdays!

No Team Meet Saturday, June 24

Sorry Seacoast fencers, but the Seacoast Team Meet #5 scheduled for this coming Saturday, June 24 conflicted with the two day Referee/Director seminar up in Portland, ME on the same weekend.  Many SFC fencers will be attending this (most of the ones who do the directing at our team meets), so I am cancelling this event.  See you at next season’s team meets, with new and improved directors!

Results from the Wide Open Tournament

We had a very good day of fencing this past weekend at our Rochester facility.  We had 52 entries, and for the first time ever, our saber event was the largest of the entire day, and earned a C2017 for the winner!

Two Seacoast fencers from Rochester did well, with Gabe Tarbuck earning his C2017 by finishing third in the Mixed Epee.  Ida Choy also did very well, finishing third in Mixed Foil.  Congratulations to both our fencers!

The next event we will host in Rochester will be the Five Weapon E meet on Saturday, June 3.  Be sure to sign up if you are an E fencer or unrated (and born 2003 or earlier).  You can sign up on this link:

We will need directors for that day, so if you are a D or higher rated fencer, please consider offering to direct that day.

Seacoast Fencers Results on Saturday

Seacoast had another excellent weekend for our fencers.  Our Rochester club hosted a D tournament this Saturday with 67 competitors, which included the largest women’s foil event that our division has had in over a year.  We drew fencers from as far away as New Jersey, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, as well as the neighboring states of Vermont, Massachusetts, and Maine.  Seventeen Seacoast fencers competed, and three of our junior’s went home with medals.

Our best result was a silver medal by Hannah McPherson in the Women’s Foil D.  She fought a hard battle in the final, scoring three touches in a row to tie the bout at 14-14.  Unfortunately, her run ended, and she finished in second place.

In the Mixed Epee D, our fencers tied for third.  Brian Austin and Solomon Bixby fenced well, but ultimately lost in the semi-finals.  However, Brian earned his first rating with this finish, and is now an E-17, while Solomon re-earned his rating.  Congratulations to these three, and to all the Seacoast members who entered, and through competition, became better fencers.
